Growing up in a small town in North Georgia, Chef Whitney Wood’s culinary journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and a love for the craft. After serving in the United States Air Force, Whitney discovered her calling in the kitchen while working at Boshamps in Destin, Florida. Over the course of nearly four years, she immersed herself in the art of cooking, developing a deep respect for seasonal ingredients and honing her technical skills.
Her career trajectory includes roles such as Sous Chef at South City Kitchen under Chef David Gross, Executive Chef at True Food Kitchen, a Personal Chef with the Atlanta Personal Chef Service, and Assistant Culinary Director for the esteemed Hillstone Restaurant Group. Today, Whitney serves as the Culinary Director for Recess Concepts, a standout in Atlanta’s vibrant food scene. Previously owned by the Castellucci Hospitality Group, Recess Concepts was recently recognized by Southern Living Magazine as one of Atlanta’s best food hall restaurants.
Whitney’s cooking style is rooted in farm-to-table seasonal cuisine, blending simplicity with bold, unforgettable flavors. “Focusing on seasonality opens the door to exploring diverse cultures and culinary traditions,” she shares. Her expertise shines brightest in seafood, crafting exquisite dishes featuring fresh red snapper, grouper, and cobia, complemented by locally sourced produce and personally grown herbs.
Outside the kitchen, Whitney embraces life’s adventures—whether hiking scenic trails, enjoying karaoke nights, or savoring a meal with friends. An avid fisher and nature lover, she finds inspiration in the outdoors, which deeply influences her culinary creations.
With nearly a decade of experience in luxury private dining and restaurant leadership, Chef Whitney Wood continues to elevate the art of seasonal cooking, delivering dining experiences that are both refined and heartfelt.
